Soccer at the Summit

We traveled up to Flagstaff, AZ for Ashley's first tournament of the season: Soccer at the Summit. Ashley had to get a ride with Andie after school on Friday and had to have a sleep over with her soccer mates. Needless to say, she didn't miss old mom and dad at all. The girls had a great time doing their hair, and of course applying spray on sparkles. The girls played 4 games: 1st game they won 5-0, 2nd game they won 1-0, 3rd game they won 5-0, 4th game lost 1-0. The Leagcy White girls took 2nd overall in the tournament. Way to play girls! Go #3!


The rest of the McPoland clan drove up Saturday morning after Alyssa's 8:00 am game - which they finally won 2-1...way to go Blue Angels!

Sunday Morning - Starbucks

Inbetween games we went to a great park for the kids to play at near down town Flagstaff. What a weekend, never a dull moment.

Mia's 6th Birthday Party

Mia had a GREAT time at her 6th birthday party! It

was her first 'friend party' where she got to invite some

friends from school. They had a blast dancing to

Hannah Montana music and playing pass the parcel.

The cake was yummy, but the best part for Mia was

opening all her birthday presents. Many thanks to

everyone who made this day so special for her.

Alyssa and Mia - family movie night at school - Camp Rock!

Happy 6th Birthday Mia! - So I was a little worried about her collar bone today...but she made it through school ok...thanks to her teacher Mrs. Titchenal! I did go in the afternoon and help out with the class, just in case Mia needed something, and also to bring in chocolate chip cookies for the class, yum! It also happened to be family movie night at school, where you bring your own pillows and blankets and hang out with your friends. Of course Mia wanted to do that for her birthday, who wouldn't? There was a sea of kids spread out over the floor in the gymnasium...and of course, when Mia should have been sitting down, every time a song came on, there she was dancing away. It took all I had not to yell, 'Mia! Your shoulder!'

Wednesday September 17 @ 7:00 pm, Mia decided to climb into the chair Alyssa was sitting on at the computer. Mia climbed over the arm rest, and Alyssa pushed the chair back with her feet a tiny bit, and Mia fell onto the tile floor. Needless to say, there was a loud thump...and a scream! Mia was so upset, but absolutely did not want to go to the doctor. She wanted to go to bed...so she did. She woke up twice that night crying, obviously in pain, but made it through ok. Thursday morning (18th) she even made it through on the bus, while big sister Alyssa carried her backpack for her. I decided to pull her out of school just after lunch time, to be on the safe side. We went to an urgent care close to our house, and had an x-ray. Sure enough - it was fractured. Mia was so brave...she wasn't sure about the x-ray at first, she thought it was going to hurt. But she was so brave, the nurse gave her a sling and we will see what the Ortho Dr. says on Monday. Of course, it's her birthday tomorrow...but...'the show must go on!'

Mia's 35th Blood Transfusion

Mia was so brave today at her 35th blood transfusion. The first IV start almost
worked, but they had to redo it which Mia was very unhappy about. But all in
all it was a good day. She ordered bacon and tater tots for breakfast, of course,
and watched Narnia, Peter Pan, and Alivin & the Chipmonks. Not a lot to do when
you are confined to a bed all day.

East Valley Bible Church Blood Drive

Today our church had their quarterly blood drive.

It was so neat to see lots of people come out and donate.

As I was sitting there donating blood, explaining to the people who worked on the bus about Mia and her bone marrow disorder, I had people coming up to me asking if they could doante in Mia's name. It was so great! It's so wonderful when people reach out to help others in need. This is a big need for our family, since Mia's little body doesn't produce it's own red blood cells.

The church had a flyer with Mia's picture on it, explaining everything about her, so I went and had it copied, and had Mia give it to the workers on the bus. They were thrilled, but mostly to meet Mia.

Mia was so excited to 'go on the bus' and told her sisters how awesome it was - especially that she wasn't going to get poked!

Mia's Doctor Appointment

Mia had a finger poke today. She is always so brave...no tears. Her hgb was 8.4 which I thought was low after only being transfused on August 27th. They tested to see what her iron level was a month or so ago, and it is so high. It ideally should be below 1000 and it is currently at 1955. Some other blood work is showing that she's close to developing diabetes, as her blood sugar level was high when they tested for the iron. Unfortunately, due to all the blood transfusions, the extra iron packs onto your organs...and in Mia's case, it's showing up in the pancreas. As if we need one more medical issue to get through.

Please pray for Mia, that her iron count would be lowered by taking her exjade dissolved in OJ every morning, and that she wouldn't develop diabetes.

We truly know that God is in control.
